KenyanNurse Consultants Ltd and the Kenya Progressive Nurses Association (KPNA) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) intended to expand training opportunities, continuing professional development (CPD) and pathways to international licensure for Kenyan nurses.

The agreement, announced by KenyanNurse in a public statement, sets out a framework for joint training programmes, CPD delivery, and support for nurses seeking internationally recognised qualifications. The partners said the arrangement aims to strengthen clinical skills, improve examination preparedness for foreign licensure where applicable, and widen career opportunities for members across Kenya’s counties.

“This MoU signing marks a historic moment for nursing in Kenya — opening new pathways and strengthening professional capacity for our nurses,” said Edwin Simiyu, who led KenyanNurse’s delegation to the signing. He described the partnership as part of a broader strategy to professionalise nursing practice and to link local training with international standards.

Under the terms announced by KenyanNurse, the partnership will pilot CPD workshops and establish joint training modules in selected institutions. The organisations said they will also work to coordinate county-level rollouts and explore scholarship or bursary arrangements to help practising nurses access specialist courses.

KenyanNurse has in recent months signed agreements and held engagement meetings with a number of Kenyan universities and colleges to develop NCLEX preparatory courses and clinical-placement arrangements. The company said the KPNA partnership will allow those training initiatives to be rolled out more broadly to practising nurses and students who are KPNA members.

The Kenya Progressive Nurses Association — a professional body representing nurses across the country — welcomed the opportunity to scale training options for its members and to lobby for improved continuing education pathways, the announcement said. The association will be responsible for mobilising member engagement and helping integrate the programmes within county-level healthcare networks.

Healthcare sector observers said the success of the initiative will depend on transparent implementation, sustained funding for practical training components, and clear alignment with national licensing and CPD frameworks overseen by regulators. They also noted that partnerships between private training providers and professional associations have become more common as demand grows for international qualifications and specialist nursing skills.

Both KenyanNurse and KPNA said they will publish an implementation schedule and a county-by-county roll-out plan in the coming weeks. The partners said they intend to begin pilot activities later this quarter, starting with a small number of counties and training sites before scaling nationally.
