AA Kenya honoured organisations and individuals advancing road safety during the inaugural Road Safety Excellence Awards held in Nairobi.

Speaking at the awards, Principal Secretary for Sports Elijah Mwangi said road safety remained a shared responsibility that demanded discipline and strict compliance with traffic laws. He noted that Kenya loses an average of 12 people daily in road accidents.

“These figures are not just statistics. They are lives lost, families torn apart, and livelihoods disrupted,” he said.

Mwangi commended AA Kenya for its century-long commitment to motoring safety, including driver training, road rescue services, and advocacy across the region. He highlighted AA Kenya’s legacy in motorsport, recalling its role in hosting the first Safari Rally in 1953 and nurturing Kenyan rally legends.

He also praised the Best Young Driver Competition for instilling safety values in youth, announcing that Kenya will host the African Chapter of the event in November.

“As the leading mobility service provider, AA Kenya has continuously innovated to address emerging trends in the motoring sector,” he said.

AA Kenya President Jinaro Kibet said the awards were aligned with the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021–2030) and Kenya’s Vision 2030.

“These awards are a strategic contribution to safer roads, not just in Kenya but globally,” Kibet said.

Francis Theuri, Group Managing Director of AA Kenya, described the awards as a way to celebrate excellence and encourage best practices.

“The awards serve a triple purpose: to recognize excellence, inspire replication, and catalyze change,” Theuri said.

The awards recognised innovations ranging from driver training in schools and universities to corporate driver wellness checks, SACCO safety enforcement, and public awareness campaigns.

Notable winners included

-Mountain View Academy,

-Catholic University of East Africa,

-Kangaroo SACCO,

-City E-Mobility,

-GA Insurance,

-Kenya Red Cross.

Individual champions included Eng. Mary Abungu and Kevin Mubadi.
