In a groundbreaking initiative, the Green Generation Initiative (GGI) has handed over a state-of-the-art Permaculture Learning and Feeding Garden to Treeside Special School in Kasarani, Nairobi County. This innovative project combines vertical hydroponic gardens, a food forest, and a chicken coop to address food security, nutrition, and climate education for children with special needs.

Founded by renowned environmentalist Elizabeth Wathuti, GGI aims to replicate this model in 100 schools across Kenya, providing a sustainable solution to food and climate challenges. The project has already shown remarkable results, with the chicken coop producing over 6,000 eggs monthly and the vertical hydroponic garden yielding up to 20 kilograms of nutritious vegetables daily.

The initiative not only feeds the children but also teaches them climate-smart agriculture and promotes environmental conservation. The project will serve as a learning center for other schools and communities, showcasing the potential for integrated solutions to food and climate challenges.

The handover event was attended by stakeholders from government, civil society, and development partners, who praised GGI's efforts in promoting sustainability and environmental education. Treeside Special School's head teacher expressed gratitude for the project, highlighting its impact on the students' nutrition and well-being.

GGI's work demonstrates the power of community-led initiatives in driving positive change and promoting a sustainable future for all. With its innovative approach and commitment to environmental conservation, GGI is poised to make a lasting impact on Kenya's education and environmental sectors.
