In a significant stride towards regional economic integration, Kenya’s National Organizing Committee (NOC) convened today at Sarova Stanley to kick off preparations for the 25th East African Community (EAC) MSMEs Trade Fair, scheduled to take place from 1 to 10 November 2025.

The high-profile meeting sets the tone for Kenya’s role as host of the region’s flagship event for micro, small, and medium enterprises. The gathering, heralded by the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA), signals momentum in planning logistics, programming, marketing, and inter-agency collaboration for the upcoming fair.

The gathering, attended by top government officials and MSME stakeholders, sets the stage for what promises to be a milestone event for East Africa's micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Key Voices from the Frontline

Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSME Development, Wycliffe Oparanya, emphasized the trade fair’s alignment with national economic goals:

“The annual trade fair has become a powerful tool for promoting intra‑EAC trade and investment… enabling businesses to interact and access market information and opportunities.”

Principal Secretary for MSME Development, Susan Mang’eni, pledged government support:

“We have prioritised resource allocation for a diversified MSME sector… especially through investment in priority value chains.”

MSEA Board Chairman, James Mureu, underlined the importance of digital transformation:

“E‑commerce is critical in overcoming traditional trade barriers… we urge MSMEs to leverage online platforms to broaden their reach.”

MSEA Director General, Henry Rithaa, highlighted institutional support for innovators:

“Kenya’s Enterprise Development Centres play a vital role… providing incubation services that enhance the value of local products.”

Building Momentum for November’s Fair

Stakeholders at today’s session mapped out a strategic timeline, emphasizing:

  • Exhibitor recruitment, ensuring robust participation from all EAC partner states
  • Infrastructure planning and site readiness across key Nairobi venues
  • Program development, including thematic days, business forums, and cultural showcases
  • Marketing and engagement, leveraging digital outreach and media partnerships to raise the fair’s profile

A Pillar of Regional Integration

Since its inception, the EAC MSMEs Trade Fair — also known as the Jua Kali Nguvu Kazi Exhibition — has served as a vital forum to amplify regional trade, innovation, and cultural ties. Kenya’s hosting in 2025 presents an opportunity to harness momentum within the East African Economic Community for deeper economic integration.

With today’s event concluding on a note of determination, Nairobi is poised to stand out as the epicenter of regional entrepreneurship this November.
