The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) has announced a groundbreaking union with the KIKAO Youth Movement, marking a significant shift in the landscape of youth political engagement in Kenya. This strategic partnership establishes DNA as the official political home for a new generation of leaders, with KIKAO's grassroots network becoming the foundation of the newly launched DNA Youth Movement.
"Today is a revolutionary moment," declared DNA Party Leader Hon. Godfrey Kanoti during a press briefing at DNA offices in Karen. "We gather to mark the formal union of the Democratic National Alliance and the KIKAO Youth Movement. This is a turning point, a signal to the nation that Kenya's youth are no longer knocking on doors. You are opening your own."
Bright Shitemi, CEO and Chairperson of KIKAO, echoed this sentiment, stating, "This momentous day is a continuation of the remarkable efforts of young people who said enough to corruption, poor governance, and an attempt to destroy our democratic gains."
Key Leadership Appointments
The partnership has brought forth key leadership appointments, including:
- Deputy Party Leader: Chepkoech Towett
- Deputy National Chairperson: Bright Shitemi
- Secretary Public Policy and Economic Affairs: Stanley Muchiri
- Secretary Political Affairs: James Okumu
- Secretary Mobilization, Partnerships, and Fundraising: Eugene Ochieng
- Secretary Publicity and Information: Jagero Oduor
Addressing the Challenges Facing Young Kenyans, Hon. Kanoti acknowledged the severe challenges facing young Kenyans, citing alarming statistics and recent events. "Over 35% of Kenya's youth are unemployed. Millions more are underemployed, underpaid, or hustling just to survive." He also condemned the violence against young activists, noting, "In recent months, young Kenyans have been abducted, tortured, and even killed for daring to speak out."
The DNA Party Leader emphasized that this partnership is a definitive rejection of tokenism. "We are tired of gatekeeping, where old systems protect the same tired faces at your expense. DNA is not just welcoming you; we are investing in you," he said.
The newly formed DNA Youth Movement will serve as a robust platform for political education, mentorship, and leadership pathways. Hon. Kanoti concluded his address with a powerful call to action for the nation's Gen Z and Millennials. "You are not the future; you are the present. And you will no longer ask permission to lead,"he said. "2027 will be the Youth Tsunami—the only question is: Will you be part of the wave, or will you watch it pass you by? The time for frustration has passed. The time for power is here."
