The Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) buzzed with energy yesterday as the Wezesha Mama, Inua Jamii – Nairobi Chapter brought together women, community groups, and leaders from across the country in a day dedicated to empowerment, unity, and action. The event, led by Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, saw life-changing commitments made to women and vulnerable communities.

Life-Changing Support Announced
The day’s highlights included:

  • KSh 28 million in Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) cheques to over 200 women’s groups.
  • KSh 11 million in bursaries for needy students.
  • 200 white canes for blind students.
  • KSh 250,000 to the Bomb Blast Association via the Wezesha Fund.
  • 20 mattresses to Vijana Amani Pamoja (VAP), an organisation supporting survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
  • Travel support for 8 SGBV survivors from VAP to represent Kenya at the Homeless World Cup Football Tournament in Oslo, Norway.

In her keynote speech, Hon. Esther Passaris underlined her commitment to creating lasting opportunities for women and vulnerable groups:

“When we empower women, we empower entire communities. The Wezesha Mama program is not just about giving funds—it’s about giving dignity, giving voice, and opening doors for our women and youth to stand tall.”

She also expressed gratitude for the collaborative spirit that made the day possible:

“I thank President William Ruto, my fellow women leaders, and the people of Nairobi for believing in the power of collective action. This is how we transform lives.”

National Leaders Joined in Support
Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau called for unity beyond politics:

“Our tribe as women leaders is women. We stand together regardless of political divides, because what we share is a mission to uplift.”

Elgeyo Marakwet Woman Representative Caroline Ng’elechei urged for the protection of women and girls:

“We must end gender-based violence, early marriages, FGM, and femicide. These are chains that hold back our society. It is time we break them.”

A Vision for the Future
The Wezesha Mama, Inua Jamii initiative continues to stand as a beacon for socio-economic growth and women’s empowerment. The Nairobi Chapter’s focus on practical, immediate impact—paired with a strong advocacy voice—signals a future where Kenyan women are not just participants, but leaders in economic and social transformation.
