The Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) was a scene of celebration today as Balozi Co-operative Savings & Credit Society Ltd marked its 50th anniversary in a grand golden jubilee attended by members, staff, leaders, and invited dignitaries. The event captured both the pride of past achievements and the optimism of a future yet to be written.
From its founding in 1975 as a small co-operative serving members from embassies and international organizations, Balozi SACCO has grown into a strong financial institution with assets worth billions of shillings and nearly 5,000 members. The day’s speakers reflected on this remarkable journey with a mix of gratitude and resolve.
“Balozi SACCO’s story is one of resilience, trust, and shared prosperity,” said the Chairperson. “What began as a modest idea 50 years ago has now become a pillar of financial stability for thousands of members and their families.”
The Chief Executive Officer reminded members that the golden jubilee was not just about celebrating the past but also setting new goals. “This milestone is a call to action,” he said. “We must embrace innovation, strengthen digital solutions, and continue delivering financial services that respond to the changing needs of our members.”
Members themselves also shared their experiences, some recalling how the SACCO had walked with them through different stages of life. “I educated my children through Balozi loans, I built my home through Balozi, and even as I plan my retirement, I know I am secure with Balozi,” said one long-serving member to resounding applause.
Invited guests also highlighted the wider importance of cooperatives to the Kenyan economy. A government representative remarked, “When people come together in trust, institutions like Balozi prove that sustainable development is possible. For 50 years, Balozi has lived this reality.”
As the celebrations drew to a close, the Board made clear that the SACCO’s next chapter will focus on deepening member value and strengthening governance. “We are proud of our past,” a board member said, “but the future calls for even greater commitment to innovation, transparency, and service.”
With cheers, music, and a toast to half a century of success, the Balozi family left KICC with renewed belief that the next fifty years would be even more impactful, guided by the spirit of unity and the promise of secure hands.
