Addressing hundreds of delegates and leaders in attendance, Uhuru reflected on the turbulence the party has endured in recent years but urged members not to be swayed by bitterness or political attacks.
"Winning and losing taught me never to be driven by bitterness or anger, because it distracts us from vision," he said to a loud cheer from the floor.
The former Head of State defended Jubilee’s track record, citing landmark achievements under his administration. “We connected over 70 percent of households to electricity, abolished maternity fees through the Linda Mama programme, and invested in infrastructure that transformed our economy. These are gains that must be protected,” he emphasized.
He expressed concern that some of these milestones had been eroded. “Many of the gains we had in the past have been eroded. While we wait for new experiments, Kenyans suffer. Some of the truths we spoke of yesterday have become the realities of today,” Uhuru warned.
The convention also highlighted Jubilee’s renewed focus on reorganizing and widening its appeal. Uhuru pledged to empower young leaders and ensure the party fields strong candidates in the 2027 elections. “This gathering is not for applause, it is for action. We must build a party that listens to the people and gives them solutions,” he told delegates.
One of the symbolic moments of the day was the show of solidarity between Uhuru and former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who joined him at the event. Their appearance together drew attention as a possible sign of reconciliation and a united front.
Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and other party leaders echoed the call for discipline and grassroots mobilization, urging delegates to remain focused on Jubilee’s long-term vision.
The NDC, which comes after years of internal wrangles, is being seen as an attempt to reset the party’s trajectory and reaffirm Uhuru’s grip on its direction. Delegates were left with the charge to strengthen Jubilee from the ground up and to prepare for what leaders promised will be a “resurgent and battle-ready party.”
