Kenya today joined the rest of the world in celebrating International Coffee Day with a national event held at Utalii Hotel, Nairobi, where New KPCU PLC reaffirmed its commitment to reviving the country’s coffee sector.

In a gathering attended by farmers, cooperative leaders,  industry players, speakers underscored the need to restore the pride and prosperity once associated with Kenyan coffee. The day’s theme centered on “revival in motion,” with participants highlighting reforms aimed at boosting farmer earnings, improving transparency, and repositioning Kenyan coffee on the global stage.

New KPCU Chairman Henry Kinyua said the coffee revival was no longer a distant dream but an ongoing mission.

“Revival of coffee production is not just a promise, it is a mission in motion. We are determined to restore the glory of Kenyan coffee and ensure farmers benefit fairly from their hard work,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer Anthony Ndung’u emphasized that reforms under implementation are designed to rebuild trust with farmers, strengthen cooperative structures, and guarantee better returns across the value chain.

“This is about more than production numbers. It is about rebuilding pride, creating opportunity for farming families, and ensuring Kenyan coffee takes its rightful place in the world market,” he noted.

Farmers from different regions were recognized for their resilience, with calls for more support to enhance processing, marketing, and value addition. The event also featured pledges to integrate youth and women into the coffee economy, positioning them as key drivers of future growth.

International Coffee Day 2025 came at a time when Kenya is implementing sector-wide reforms to address historical challenges of low prices, mismanagement, and climate pressures. Officials assured farmers that transparent systems, stronger farmer services, and global marketing initiatives are being prioritized to secure lasting gains.

The celebrations concluded with a renewed commitment to uplift communities through coffee, with leaders expressing confidence that the revival agenda would restore Kenya’s coffee to its former glory while opening new frontiers in international trade.
