NATIONWIDE NYOTA YOUTH VERIFICATION EXERCISE KICKS OFF FRIDAY
The Government of Kenya is set to roll out a nationwide youth verification exercise on Friday, October 24, 2025, under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) project a five-year initiative supported by the World Bank aimed at transforming the lives of vulnerable youth through entrepreneurship, job creation, and financial empowerment.
The physical validation, scheduled to take place across all 290 constituencies, targets applicants under the Business Support Component, which seeks to train, mentor, and finance 100,000 youth entrepreneurs through KSh 50,000 start-up grants.
Speaking ahead of the exercise, Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya said the nationwide activity represents “a critical step in ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability in identifying the right beneficiaries.”
“This exercise is about giving genuine and committed young people a fair chance to succeed. The government is determined to ensure that every slot reaches a deserving youth who meets the set criteria,” said Oparanya.
According to the NYOTA Project Implementation Team, the verification will confirm key applicant details such as residency, education level, employment status, gender, and disability, while assessing their readiness to engage fully in the project.
“The validation exercise will not be repeated. Only those who appear physically for verification will be considered for selection,” the project team emphasized.
The exercise will be led by Principal Secretaries, working alongside elected leaders, National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs), and the NYOTA Project Implementation Team through a whole-of-government approach. Constituency validation centres will be organized by wards to enhance order and transparency.
Applicants are required to present their National Identification Cards, while Persons with Disabilities must carry disability identification cards for authentication.
Oparanya urged all shortlisted youth to turn up for the validation, emphasizing that the initiative is designed to promote self-reliance among Kenya’s young people.
“Our youth are full of energy, creativity, and ambition. NYOTA is a chance for them to turn their ideas into enterprises that will change their lives and uplift their communities,” he added.
The Entrepreneurship Aptitude Test (EAT) remains a compulsory requirement for final selection into the Business Support Component. Those who have not yet taken the test will have an opportunity to do so on-site during the validation. To take the test, applicants should send the word NYOTA to 40270 and follow the prompts to complete 19 questions. The test, which is free and available in several languages, must be completed by Friday, October 24, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.
After the verification, the NYOTA team will review the results and EAT performance reports over three days before publishing the final list of successful beneficiaries. Those selected will then undergo induction and training before receiving their business start-up support.
The NYOTA Project aims to reach at least 820,000 youth aged 18–29 years, and up to 35 years for Persons with Disabilities, across 1,450 wards. The initiative focuses on enhancing employability, entrepreneurship, and savings culture through four interventions: Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), On-Job Experience (OJE), Business Support, and Digital Training on Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) and the e-GP platform.
CS Oparanya affirmed the government’s commitment to the success of the initiative, stating, “The NYOTA project is not just a programme it is a promise to the youth of Kenya that their government believes in their potential. Through this initiative, we are creating a new generation of job creators, innovators, and leaders.”
