PRESIDENT WILLIAM RUTO UNVEILS PHASE ONE INFRASTRUCTURE AT KONZA TECHNOPOLIS, KENYA'S SMART CITY TAKES SHAPE

President William Samoei Ruto today officially opened the first phase of infrastructure at Konza Technopolis, a landmark achievement that brings Kenya closer to its vision of becoming a regional leader in technology, research, and smart urban development.

Addressing guests during the ceremony, President Ruto hailed the project as a game-changer for Kenya’s digital and economic transformation, saying it represents the country’s shift from planning to tangible progress.

“Konza Technopolis is the heartbeat  of our future economy,” he declared. “It is no longer a dream or a concept   it is now taking form as a space   where innovation, creativity, and.   opportunity meet.”

The President noted that the completion of Phase One provides the foundation for investors, startups, and global technology companies to thrive. The phase includes major infrastructure works such as paved roads, a modern power substation, clean water systems, and an advanced solid waste management plant.

“We are not just laying cables and concrete; we are laying the groundwork for Kenya’s digital revolution,” he said. “This city will anchor our transition into a knowledge-driven economy that creates jobs and improves livelihoods.”

Among the key developments inaugurated were a 120-megawatt power distribution substation, smart lighting, fiber connectivity, and the Silicon Savannah Intelligent Operations Centre, which will monitor and manage essential city functions in real time.

During the event, President Ruto also launched the Konza Affordable Housing Project, which targets 10,000 housing units within the Technopolis. Of these, 3,000 are already under construction.

“The people who will build and power this city must also have a place to call home,” he remarked. “Our housing initiative ensures that growth and opportunity remain inclusive and accessible to every Kenyan.”

President Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to making Konza a magnet for investment and talent. He highlighted the government’s continued support through incentives, favorable policies, and reliable infrastructure to attract innovators and global partners.

“Konza is ready for business,” he emphasized. “We welcome visionary entrepreneurs, tech pioneers, and investors to join us in creating solutions that will shape Kenya’s tomorrow.”

The ceremony drew senior government officials, ICT professionals, county leaders, and development partners, all of whom praised the Technopolis as a symbol of Kenya’s growing confidence and capacity to lead in digital innovation.

As the event concluded, the newly launched infrastructure stood as a testament to Kenya’s determination to turn ambition into achievement  a clear signal that the nation’s “smart city of the future” is no longer an aspiration but a reality in progress.
