Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has raised concern over the state of the country’s economy, saying many Kenyans continue to struggle despite claims that conditions are improving.

Nyoro said the high cost of living remains a major burden on households, arguing that prices of basic goods and services are still beyond the reach of many families.

“Kenyans are being told that things are getting better, but on the ground the reality is very different,” he said. “Families are still struggling with high prices, heavy taxes and shrinking incomes.”

He questioned government priorities, noting that increased taxation and borrowing have not translated into meaningful relief for citizens.

“You cannot keep borrowing and taxing people without accountability,” Nyoro said. “Every shilling collected from Kenyans must translate into real services and opportunities for our people.”

He also warned that continued economic pressure could have long-term consequences, particularly for young people and small businesses trying to stay afloat.

“We owe the next generation honest leadership and responsible decisions,” he said. “If we don’t fix this now, we are passing a heavier burden to our children.”

Nyoro called for prudent use of public resources, transparency in public spending and policies focused on easing pressure on households and businesses.

“Leadership is about making tough but correct choices,” he added. “The focus must be on protecting the livelihoods of Kenyans, not defending systems that are clearly not working.”

His remarks come amid sustained public debate over taxation, cost of living and the overall direction of the economy.
