Former Nyandarua County Assembly Speaker Wahome Ndegwa has formally entered the race for a leadership position within the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) after submitting his nomination papers to contest for the representative seat.

Speaking after presenting his documents, Ndegwa said his bid is driven by a desire to strengthen the legal profession and ensure advocates across the country are effectively represented within the LSK leadership.

“The Law Society of Kenya must remain strong, independent and responsive to the needs of its members,” Ndegwa said. “I am offering myself to serve so that advocates, especially those practising outside major urban centres, can have a stronger voice.”

Ndegwa, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and the founding Speaker of the Nyandarua County Assembly, said his experience in both legal practice and public leadership places him in a strong position to contribute to the society’s governance.

“I have served in public office and practised law for many years. I understand the challenges facing advocates today, from access to justice to professional welfare,” he said. “LSK must focus on protecting the dignity of the profession while standing firm on the rule of law.”

He said, if elected, he would push for greater engagement between the LSK leadership and members, improved support for young advocates, and stronger advocacy on issues affecting the justice system.

“LSK should not only speak during crises. It must consistently engage its members and the public, defend constitutionalism and promote ethical practice,” Ndegwa said.

The former speaker also stressed the importance of unity within the legal fraternity, saying divisions weaken the profession’s ability to defend judicial independence.

“When advocates speak with one voice, the rule of law is protected. My goal is to help build a united, principled and fearless Law Society,” he added.

The LSK elections have attracted growing interest from legal practitioners across the country, with candidates positioning themselves on issues such as professional welfare, access to justice, and the independence of the Judiciary.

Ndegwa urged advocates to participate actively in the upcoming polls, saying the outcome will shape the future direction of the society.

“This election is about the future of our profession. I urge my colleagues to take part and choose leaders who will serve with integrity and courage,” he said.
