Community leader Hon. Dorcas Mwigereri on Wednesday joined students, teachers and parents at Ndadora School in Dandora for a community event that celebrated academic excellence and renewed hope for learners from informal settlements.

The gathering was inspired by the school’s recent academic achievement, which saw one of its candidates post strong KCSE results, an outcome residents described as a powerful statement that success is possible despite the challenges facing the area.

Addressing the students, Hon. Mwigereri urged them to remain focused on education, describing it as the most reliable path out of poverty and social exclusion. She encouraged learners not to be defined by their background, noting that discipline, hard work and support from the community can open doors to opportunities previously thought unreachable.

“Where you come from should never limit where you are going. Education gives you the power to rewrite your own story,” she said.

The leader also called on parents, teachers and local stakeholders to work together to protect children from dropping out of school, warning that lack of support often pushes young people toward drugs, crime and other social vices.

“When a child is supported, the entire community benefits. We must invest more in our schools and in our children,” she added.

Hon. Mwigereri’s presence at the school was welcomed by residents, many of whom praised her consistent engagement with grassroots initiatives in Dandora, particularly those focused on youth mentorship and education.

“This achievement shows that even in the most difficult environments, excellence can thrive if we believe in our children,” she told the gathering.

The Ndadora School event ended with renewed calls for increased investment in public schools within informal settlements, as leaders and educators emphasized that education remains central to changing the narrative of marginalized communities.
