By: Gladys K  The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) has announced a nationwide strike by its members beginning at midnight on Monday, December 22, 2025, following the failure of conciliation talks convened by the Ministry of Labour. In a statement issued by National Chairman Peterson Wachira, the union said the meeting collapsed after the Ministry of Health and the Council of Governors (CoG) failed to attend, leaving clinical officers with what it termed “no other option” but to withdraw their labour. “All Clinical Officers, including specialists and clinical interns, are expected to be on strike from today midnight,” Wachira said, calling on members to remain united as they push for improved working conditions and recognition of their professional rights. KFC Chief Executive Officer Clement Tulezi said the floriculture industry remains a key pillar of the economy. “The flower sector is doing well and continues to earn the country valuable foreign exchange while supporting thousands of jobs across farms, transport and other related areas,” Tulezi said. By: Gladys K  Nairobi is set to host an international women’s tennis tournament when the ITF World Tennis Tour Women’s W35 event takes place from December 28, 2025 to January 11, 2026 at Parklands Sports Club. The two-week tournament will see players from around the world compete for Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) world ranking points and prize money. The winner of each event will earn 35 WTA points, while the runner-up will receive 23 points. Semi-finalists will collect 14 points, with quarter-finalists earning 8 points. Players will also compete for prize money, with the singles champion set to receive USD 4,860. The runner-up will take home USD 2,637, while semi-finalists will earn USD 1,428 each and quarter-finalists USD 830. On Tuesday morning, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) handed Sonko the Certificate of Full Registration for the National Economic Development Party (NEDP). With this approval, the party can now field candidates, with plans already set to take part in the 2027 Nairobi County elections. The party is expected to officially name Sonko as its leader in early 2026. Shareholders approved the higher payout during the company’s 73rd Annual General Meeting held in Nairobi on Thursday, where they also supported KenGen’s long-term growth plans. For the financial year ending June 30, shareholders agreed to a dividend of Ksh.0.90 per share, up from Ksh.0.65 last year. This increase follows a 54% jump in profit after tax to Ksh.10.48 billion, boosted by lower costs, more revenue from new activities, and better foreign exchange conditions. Board Chairman Hon. By: Gladys K  Kenya has taken a major step toward introducing nuclear energy after announcing that Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) will run the country’s first nuclear power plant. The announcement was made on Monday by Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, who said the move supports President William Ruto’s plan for Kenya to add about 10 gigawatts of new power to drive economic growth. The first nuclear plant is expected to produce about 2,000 megawatts (2GW), with plans to grow this to 6GW.
